About the Growers:
ASPROGUATE (Asociacion sostenible de productores de Guatemala) began in 2014, led by a group of organized producers in Coban, Acatenango, and Chimaltenango, with the goal of marketing their high quality coffees for added value by using fully organic practices. 100 producers helped start this cooperative, and others in nearby regions saw the success and joined in. As of today, producing regions also include Acatenango, Atitlan, and San Martin Jilotepeque. Approximately 55% of the members are women producers. Members take pride in their organic practices, which are assisted by ongoing workshops provided by the cooperative on topics such as organic fertilizer and soil support. The cooperative also educates on gender equality, and rejecting discrimination, slavery, and child labor.
